New Modern Mexican Dishes in River North 

Cantina Laredo, featuring modern Mexican cuisine River North, recently launched new lunch, dinner and brunch menus. Chef de Cuisine Kennon Reed’s new dishes include: Tacos de Costillas (slow-roasted short rib with tomatillo sauce, monterey jack cheese, roasted red peppers and queso fresco); Pollo Mango Mole (grilled chicken with mango mole sauce and toasted pine nuts); Costillas con Fajita (ribs basted in Jose Cuervo tequila barbecue sauce with beef and chicken fajitas); Tacos de Hongos (grilled portobello mushrooms in balsamic glaze with goat cheese, roasted red pepper and queso fresco; and Torta de Costillas (griddle baked sandwich with slow-roasted short rib, apple-jicama slaw, jalapenos and black beans).

Cantina Laredo’s bar menu offers unique specialty cocktails prepared with hand-squeezed ingredients, including Seasonal Sorbet Rum ‘Ritas (Blood Orange; Mango CitrusRaspberry Chipotle), Signature Margaritas (Casa Rita; Cabo Flip; Ginger Mint Mango), Mojitos, Palomas and more. An extensive tequila list, Mexican beers and worldly wines are also available.

Cantina Laredo is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; dinner is served nightly from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sundaythrough Thursday, and from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Weekend brunch is offered Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  All brunch entrees include a mimosa, Bloody Maria or non-alcoholic beverage. Cantina Laredo’s small plates lounge menu (second floor) is featured at half-price, Monday-Friday from 4-7 p.m.

Cantina Laredo has unveiled new low-cal cocktails for the new year. The modern Mexican restaurant and lounge now offers three ways to imbibe while watching your waistline. Each drink, 140 calories or less, is served with a “flip” of liquor on top ($10 each).
The low calorie cocktails include:
Caliente Flaca Flip (135 calories) Hornitos Plata Tequila and triple sec with fresh lime juice, orange and jalapeño, topped with club soda and a jalapeño flip of Domaine de Canton Ginger LiqueurCitrus Burst Flaca Flip (130 calories) Hornitos Plata Tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice and orange, topped with club soda and a lemon flip of SKYY Citrus Vodka

Peach Berry Flaca Flip (140 calories) Hornitos Plata Tequila and fresh lime juice with peach and triple sec, topped with club soda and a strawberry flip of DeKuyper Strawberry Pucker

Cantina Laredo’s cocktails are available daily for lunch, dinner, brunch and lounging with libations.  The restaurant’s hours are: Sunday through Wednesday, 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Thursday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m.

Chicagoans love their tacos, and National Taco Day is the perfect time to indulge in these tortilla-wrapped Mexican treasures. OnFriday, October 4, four area restaurants (Nacional 27; Taco Joint; Cantina Laredo; High Noon Saloon) will offer taco specials, from half-priced deals to fun flavors (think: Cactus taco; Michelada taco) that are sure to satisfy any taco fanatic. Nacional 27
Nacional 27 will celebrate National Taco Day with half-priced tiny tacos from 5 p.m. until midnight on Friday, October 4. Chef Chico Vilchez’s taco offerings include: Queso with pepper jack, mozzarella, roasted poblano; BBQ’D Lamb with organic agave, avocado salsa; Grilled Beef Tenderloin with spicy tomatillo salsa; Shrimp & Scallops with avocado, lime, romaine lettuce; and Chimichurri Chicken with pepper jack cheese and nopales (regularly $4.95 each). On National Taco Day, Taco Joint in River North and Lincoln Park will offer any three tacos for $5 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Looking for a late night fix? After 10 p.m., all tacos will be just $2 each (regularly $3-$3.50). As an added bonus, guests who post an Instagram photo of their tacos with the hashtag #tacoday will receive complimentary chips, salsa and guacamole. Taco Joint’s menu features: Barbacoa (braised beef, cilantro, onion, roasted red jalapeno salsa); Cochinita (Yucatan pulled pork, pickled red onions, habanero salsa); Enchilada (salsa verde pulled chicken, tomatillo pico, crispy queso Chihuahua); Michelada (beer marinated flank steak, arugula, green onions, sangrita salsa); Panela (grilled queso panela, black bean salsa, guajillo-mushrooms, arugula); and more. Cantina Laredo gives margarita lovers a great reason to imbibe on Tuesdays with their recently launched “Margarita Martes” promotion. The River North restaurant and lounge will now offer a $5 specialty ‘Rita of the Day, made with premium tequila, every Tuesday. Tomorrow, June 19, the restaurant will shake up ‘ritas made with Patron Silver tequila for $5 each.  A different brand of tequila will be featured each week.

Pair your margarita with Cantina Laredo’s delicious, modern Mexican cuisine including homemade tamales barbacoa, sweet and spicy chicken enchiladas, slow-roasted pork tacos, beef fajitas, fresh mahi mahi and more. For the laid back “loungers,” stop in between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to enjoy the restaurant’s new “Happier Half” dining offer, featuring half-price small plates in the upper level lounge, Monday through Friday.
