HGTV/Food Network Star Taniya Nayak Gives Poor Girl’s Guide Her Stylescope Tips

Taniya Nayak

HomeGoods, the country’s only major off-price retailer dedicated to home fashions, announced the recent launch of its brand new Stylescope. HomeGoods partnered with interior designer and TV Host, Taniya Nayak, to create the new Stylescope, a unique, one-question quiz that reveals your home design horoscope featuring 12 distinct design personalities.
Just as a horoscope determines your personality, Stylescope helps determine your design personality. By simply choosing five images that make you happy from a predetermined list of choices, your Stylescope is revealed.

Taniya gives Lauren Wulf of Poor Girl’s Guide Chicago, her tips for the quiz and savvy ways to save money and keep your style fresh! Check it out below:

HomeGoods Stylescope Quiz

LAUREN: Using the Stylescope is great!  How would you suggest combining your different styles without overdoing it (i.e. Farmhouse Glam)?

  • TANIYA: It is such a fun and easy quiz! It’s very possible to combine styles without overdoing it. First- it’s important to pick pieces from the styles that are meaningful to you. Then the best way to combine styles is to keep a similar color palette. By doing that, you can mix and match your styles together, but still keep it cohesive.

LAUREN: Let’s say you’re a girl that gets bored a lot – are there tricks to re-using items and re-arranging without buying new accessories every year?

  • TANIYA: Well, let me start by saying that I am that girl! I am a switch-aholic based from boredom! I often take throw pillows from my bedroom and swap them for the pillows in my living room. I have accent chairs throughout the house that get pulled into the dining room and added to either end of the dining table for additional seating, and I love that they don’t match the rest of the seating! The secret is to keep a neutral base. Buy your larger pieces of furniture in grays or browns, and then accessorize in bold pops of color. I love to get my accessories from HomeGoods because they are affordable and have so many things to choose from in so many different styles. It makes it much easier and much more fun to buy accessories that way!

LAUREN: Keeping saving money in mind – are there certain pieces you recommend to buy in classic/neutral looks?  Are there certain pieces you think it’s ok to buy in a more trendy style?

  • TANIYA: Just as I mentioned above—buy the bigger pieces in neutrals and in styles that will last through the years and have fun with the accessories! An accent chair is still affordable when buying from HomeGoods, and so much can change with a simple lamp, a piece of art, and of course—my favorite quick fix change…throw pillows!
